A Day In The Park: PLAYFul Trends

I titled this post "a day in the park" but if all you have to spare is an hour, that works too and you can make yours "one hour in the park". The important thing is that you take some time out to just relax and have fun with your family. If you read one of my posts from a couple weeks ago, I wrote about how my summer days are evenly shared between being indoors and outdoors because of my involvement with kids and young adults (and also because of my friends that love picnics and the beach).

Taking some time to play outdoors is very important for both children and adults. It is both fun and almost usually free. There are so many things you can do outside and one involves spending some time in the park. Some of the PLAYFul trends identified by Voice of Play are "An hour a day" which encourages the recess time for children and "Back to nature" which I am exploring in this post by sharing my day in the park with my children from my Sunday school class.
A lot of people host or attend picnics and barbeques during the summer but I encourage you to go beyond that and take the kids out to the park, not just for the food but to play.

My kids from church love the park and we have also had a great time visiting the botanical garden (that is also one of the playful trends of 2016).
If you are thinking of more ways to engage your family (both the children and adults) in fun activities this summer, check out IPEMA and Voice of Play's post on Playful trends for 2016
"The Voice of Play is an education and advocacy initiative of the non-profit membership association, IPEMA, formed to educate and promote the benefits of children’s free outdoor play and playgrounds.  Through the Voice of Play website and social media properties, IPEMA highlights the scientifically proven physical, social, emotional and cognitive benefits of play. "

  1. I learned how to play that mancala game a few months ago. I'd never heard of it before that. It's a great game to teach kids math skills. I am a tutor and I use it to help kids develop interest in math as they strategize.
I'm going to follow you now. I hope you'll follow along too.
