Buy Extra and Save

Summertime is one of my favorite times. In some of my past posts, I shared some of the reasons why. Today I will be focusing on one of those reasons - hosting events and parties (more like mini-hangouts). My most challenging group to host has been the children, they are a delightful handful. I don't have any kids of my own yet but as a lover of kids and a "beloved" children teacher, my home unavoidably becomes a makeshift daycare during the summer when kids are out of school and seem to be most active.

It's always a pleasure having them around and while hosting can get expensive, I am always on the lookout for ways to save on expenses. Here are a few of my tips -
1. Buy things in bulk - this is where BJ's wholesale club comes in. BJ's got you with great prices for your bulk shopping. I have been shopping here for a while and every time i walk in, there is always some new deal that gets me excited beyond how I walked in.

2. Buy large/value pack items - If it says "extra" on the packaging, then it's just what i was looking for haha. Yes, seriously why should anyone buy a regular pack when you can get the extra added. So imagine my  excitement when i walked into BJ's and saw the new SCOTT® 1100 Bath Tissue package read "1000 1100 sheets per roll" (that's 100 sheets more per roll, that's "like getting 3 extra rolls" in each pack).

I always get Scott tissue because it's septic safe and long lasting, so to get even a better value for it was just so perfect for me. One less cost to worry about when the kids decide to play a little tissue dress making lol.

3. Place things out of reach - this is very important. The goal is not to make things inaccessible but to prevent waste. I have learnt that children are more likely to play with things that they see just lying around. So I store the tissue at the top of the shelf in the bathroom with one roll at a lower level.

4. Create and place visible signs - there are so many ways you can create cute and funny signs that will draw the attention of the kids and pass the information across at the same time. You can use images from google.com and make your post on word, powerpoint or canva.com.

For my image above, i seacrhed on google.com for a smiley emoji which i saved and clipped into a template i picked out on canva.com, then i added a picture of the tissue stand from my bathroom. These create the visual, and next step is to add the message. As you can see from the picture, mine is "... take only what you need".

The images get the attention and the note says what needs to be done.
